Team VELUX heading for X-99 Danish Championship

The fact is that Skipper Flemming Fjord was born and grew up in Korsør and knows the powerful and sometimes treacherous currents in those waters.

He says, "I know the Great Belt extremely well and that is definitely an advantage because the currents there are so strong and can have a direct influence on the result.

On the other hand, we are a little handicapped by the fact that we shall have to do without both Niclas Holm and Felix Weiling. That means that we will have to put our heads together to find a set-up in the boat that functions optimally. We have won the Danish Championship four years in a row and now have the possibility of sweeping the board with a fifth win. Our competitors are determined not to let us get away with it and will do everything they can to prevent it. Team VELUX has masses of speed, but our successful concept has been copied so it will be a battle to the finishing line."

Niclas Holm is being replaced by Flemming Sørensen, who is new to X-99 but has lots of big yacht experience. Felix Weiling is being replaced by Jesper Nielsen, who is a coach at Oure Sports College. The rest of the team is made up of Henrik Andersen, Morten Østergård, René Villefrance and Flemming Fjord.

The Danish Championship consists of eight races over an "up and down course". Each race is expected to take one to two hours, and the result will come on Sunday afternoon, weather permitting.

The next race will be the World Championship in Grömitz, slightly east of Puttgarden in Germany, in less than a month's time.
