Denmark's master yachtsmen battle in Karrebæksminde

Although, over the years, Team VELUX has won both World Championships and Danish Championships, it has not yet succeeded in winning Smålandsfarvandet Rundt (races held round the islands of Zealand, Møn, Falster and Lolland. Recently, Team VELUX celebrated an international triumph by winning the prestigious Prinsesse Sofia Trophy in Spain.

Everyone expects a tough battle for a place in the races, which start at 0930 hours on Saturday, 21 May, outside the harbour in Karrebæksminde.

The fact is that it is not just about winning Smålandsfarvandet Rundt, but also about collecting enough points to become this year's Øresund's Master.

Team VELUX has trained in its other boat in Spain – the slightly larger X-37, while the X-99 has stood outside the VELUX headquarters in Hørsholm.

The boat was collected last week, and on Saturday it will be the first time this year that Team VELUX is racing in Danish waters.

The result will show whether the team can transfer their training and team spirit from one boat to the other.

"We know that our competitors have trained three times a week for the past month, so we are naturally slightly nervous about whether we shall do all right. We are very keen to do our very best, says" Flemming Fjord, who is looking forward to the racing on Saturday.

The races in Smålandsfarvandet Rundt are divided into several yacht classes, and when the day is over, the winner of all of them must be found.
